No fewer than 17 villages of Gashish District of the Barkin Ladi Local Government area of Plateau State have been sacked by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Also in Ngar village of Barkin Ladi, gunmen were said  have  ambushed and attack personnel of the Special Task Force on Jos crisis.

Two of the officers were shot. One died while the other sustained injuries and he is receiving treatment in a hospital in the state capital.

According to a community leader, Ezekiel Mandyau, over 160 persons have been killed in the past two years, while over 100 people sustained injuries as a result of attacks by gunmen.

He added that most of the stories of cattle rustlers reported in the media were carried out by the Fulani themselves.

In his words, “The Fulanis steal each other’s cattle only for them to turn round and accuse the natives of  stealing their cattle which they used as a decoy to attack and kill the natives”.

It would be recalled that in one of the previous attacks over two years ago, late Senator Gyang Dantong and the Majority Leader in state  House of Assembly, Gyang Fulani, lost their lives while making arrangement to bury their kinsmen that were earlier killed by rampaging Fulani herdsmen.
