A 65-year old man has been arrested for allegedly produced guns for armed robbers and cult members. Also a suspected cultist accused of taking part in robbery activity was arrested.

The Special Anti Robbery Squad of Lagos State Police Command (SARS) which arrested the suspects claimed they were arrested for participating in robbery incidents and illegal possession of fire arms.

The suspects are Adewale Odusote, Tahiru Idris, Nojeem Bakare, a 65-year old blacksmith, and Dare Ayetoba.

Odusote was arrested at Mobil Road, Ajah on 15th May, 2015 at about 9.30pm by police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) following a tip off. Although, the suspects fled but as the area was combed Adewale was seen moving in a suspicious manner at the odd hours.

He was said to have been stopped and the nylon bag with him was searched, and the police discovered a locally made pistol in the bag. He was arrested and taken to Ajah Police Station where he confessed that the gun was given to him to deliver to one Dare.

Both Dare and the blacksmith who allegedly made and sold the gun to them were later arrested. Odusote, 22, who claimed to be a resident of Oshinowo Street, Epe told Daily Independent Metro that he was a barber.

“I belong to Aiye cult. It was my friend, Lukeman who introduced me to the cult in March 2002.  Tobi gave me the gun to give to Dare. In the process, police stopped me, searched my polythene bag and saw it.

“They took me to Ajah Police Station from where I was transferred to SARS. This is my second time of coming to SARS on cult related matter. Tahiru, 25, furniture maker said, “I am from Ajeromi Ifelodun. I live at Alagukan, Ajah. I am a member of Aiye confraternity. I joined last December.

Bakare, 65y-ear old blacksmith from Ibeju Lekki said, “I am a black smith. I am from Ibeju Lekki, Lagos. I am married to two women and I have five children. I sold the gun to Dare at the cost of N30, 000. I made cutlass and guns for hunters. “The boy lied to me that they were security guards so I sold it to them. I did not know they were thieves.”

Dare Atetoba, 22, a mechanic confessed that it was Ismaila (Asumo) who introduced him to Bakare whom he bought gun from.

“I joined Aiye last year. I was taken to a bush in Epe for initiation. We were up to 50 that went for initiation. It took place at midnight. We left there about 4pm. I and Asumo contributed N15,000 each to buy the gun. We gave it to Toib to keep. It was when Wale (Biggy) was arrested that he brought police to my workshop to arrest me.

Other cult members that always visit us that advised us about the need to own guns in case of any emergency.”
