Super Eagles Won’t Underrate ‘Unknown’ Swazis – Musa

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has said that the team will take nothing for granted against Swaziland in Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture.

The Super Eagles will take on the Sihlangu at the Somholo National Stadium, in Lobamba, in the first of their two-legged encounter to determine who progresses to the final group stage of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

It will be the first meeting between both sides at international level, and Sunday Oliseh’s men are expected to roll over the southern Africans, who defeated Djibouti 8-1 on aggregate in the last round of the qualifiers.

But Musa, a member of Nigeria’s squad to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, said the side harbours no such thought and would approach Friday’s game as they would a World Cup final.

“There are no minnows in football these days. Tanzania proved that to us recently”, said the Russian based winger referring to Nigeria’s fortuitous goalless draw against the Taifa Stars in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played in Dar es Salaam in September.

“We can’t go over there and think we will beat them just because they are not a known force in African football.

“We are going to approach the game like a World Cup final even though they are not a top football nation,” said Musa.

Other than their convincing 8-1 aggregate victory over Djibouti, it would be recalled that Swaziland, currently ranked 130 in the FIFA rankings, also defeated Guinea 2-1 in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier decided in the Moroccan city of Casablanca.

The Swazis, who have never ever qualified for a continental championship, currently top Group L in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers ahead of Zimbabwe, Malawi and Guinea.
