Lagos – Isaac Semitoje, former Super Eagles defender, has solicited for support for the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rorh, as the German begins his stewardship of the team.

The former Iwuanyanwu Nationale defender said that his call was borne out of his desire to see the team qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, saying that he was not against whoever the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) choses to coach the team.

Semitoje, CAF Africa Cup fo Nations’ winner in 1994, said that Nigerians must rally round the coach for him to succeed.

“What Eagles really need now to qualify for the World Cup is the right mentality and the whole thing rests with the players.

“Nigerians must be ready to support the coach despite our differences for him to succeed. Agreed not all of us wanted the man or a foreign coach but having been appointed, we must throw our weights behind him.

“We caannot afford to miss the 2018 World Cup after missing out on the Cup of Nations, so both the NFF and Nigerians must do everything to support the team to qualify,” Semitoje said.

He advised the coach to go for the players that understand what it means for Nigeria to appear at the World Cup.

He cautioned the bench against going for unfit players, as such, he said, would nail Nigeria “in the group we found ourselves.”

Nigeria is pitched against Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia in Group B of the Africa qualifying campaign with only the group winner qualifying for the World Cup in Russia.
