Officials have said the would-be suicide bomber arrested in a northern Cameroon village at the weekend, who, on interrogation, said she was one of the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014, was probably wrong or lying, as she is not from Chibok, Borno State, nor was she among the group of girls kidnapped by the terrorists.

The girl was reportedly drugged and disoriented when she was arrested. She also spoke only Kanuri language.

According to the BBC, a Nigerian senator disclosed this on Wednesday but refused to disclose the identity of the girl, who was said to have injuries at the time of her arrest.

Raymond Roksdo, a local government administrator in Cameroon, had said the girl’s claim would be verified by Nigerian authorities. It was also reported that government has sent some Chibok parents to Cameroon to verify the girl’s claims.

Another would-be suicide bombers were arrested with the girl, said to be in her early teens.

“One of them indeed declared that she is one of the Chibok hostages. She is around 15. We are now verifying, because on the Nigerian side they have the names and photos of these girls,” he had said.

Investigations are still in progress.
