Suicide Bomber Kills 10 In Adamawa Cattle Market

No fewer than ten people are feared dead in Garkida town of Gombi local government area of Adamawa State on Tuesday following a bomb blast carried out by a suicide bomber at the busy cattle market in the area.

Reports from the area monitored in Yola, the Adamawa State Capital, said several people were injured in the attack which shocked many who believed that Boko Haram insurgents were becoming a thing of the past in the area.

A cattle dealer, Mallam Sadau, who said he narrowly escaped death lamented that there should be more security in areas recaptured from the insurgents else its like starting the fight all over again.

According to him, during the confusion, many people lost their money and other valuables. The unfortunate incident happens to be the first experience of a suicide bomber attack on Adamawa State since the advent of insurgency in the North east sub-region.

The ugly incident no doubt has sent cold spine down the back of many residents of Yola, the state capital who are now apprehensive of what might be their fate in relation to the Garki suicide bomber attack.

Efforts to get confirmation from the military authorities proved abortive as their lines were not going through.

However, when contacted, Adamawa State Police Command spokesman, DSP Othman Mohammed could not confirm the incident, rather he directed out reporter to get in touch with the military authorities.

In a similar development, another 10 people were reported killed in a renewed attack by Boko Haram on Ajiya Wagga town as Boko Haram continued their onslaught on Madagali Local Government area of Adamawa state.

The insurgents have at the weekend launched an attack on Sabongari town of Madagali leading to the death of one person while six women were reported abducted.

Mr Warga Sunday a fleeing resident of Ajiya Waga said the gunmen struck their town in the middle of the night while most of the residents have gone to sleep and started shooting sporadically in the process killing many.

According to him “I saw many dead bodies lying as I made a mad rush to the adjourning bush to escape the marauders.

Mr. Warga Sunday noted “Many people are still in the bush as they fear another attack by the gunmen as some flee to neighboring villages.”

Another resident said many villagers have sustained various degrees of injuries and are being evacuated to hospitals for proper medical attention.

He noted that “the insurgents arrived the village around midnight Saturday and shot several people leading to the death of about 10 of them.

Confirming the incident,? the Chairman of Madagali Local Government area, Maina Ularamu called on government to provide more security in the area in order to prevent the influx of fleeing insurgents to the area.

However when contacted, spokesman of the Adamawa State police command, DSP Othman Mohammed said the police were yet receive an official report of the incident.
