Leading digital television service provider, StarTimes, celebrated its five successful years of delighting Nigerian households with quality and affordable Pay TV offerings on the 30th day of July at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja. The brand began full operation in Nigeria in 2010 and since has kept growing stronger and bigger with subscribers rising from zero to millions and its TV channels and content from 40 to about 200.

Mr. Pang XinXing, the Chairman of the global technology company, was in Nigeria last week to celebrate the massive growth and success of the company in Nigeria.

In an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on the activities of the company, he said: “We started as a very small company here in Nigeria five years ago, but now, we have become a very big company. Last year, we launched our Direct to Home services so that we can cover the whole of Nigeria. Now, we are providing more and more channels and the quality of our programming is increasing.

Now, on our platform, we have more Nigerian local channels and local content. Besides that, our staff strength is also increasing. Currently, we have nearly 1,000 staff members here in Nigeria. More and more subscribers can enjoy our services. For three consecutive years, we have been awarded as the most popular operator here in Nigeria. Our subscriber base is now 2.6 million. All these have been achieved within the past five years.”

In addition, Mr. Xinxing noted that, ‘’we are contributing to the development of the society because aside almost 1000 direct job opportunities created we have created indirect job opportunities of over 10,000. We also have consistently been paying tax, which has run into about N4 billion in the last five years.”
