The South West zone of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has appealed to Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, to pay the salary of its members in the state civil service who have not been paid for the past months.

The appeal was contained in statement jointly signed by Dr. Odewabi Adenike and Dr. Ayoola Zaheed, Ogun State NMA Chairman and Coordinating Chairman, NMA South West Caucus and the Secretary, NMA, Ogun State and Coordinating Secretary, NMA, South West, respectively.

According to the statement in Abeokuta, Ogun State capita, medical doctors in the employ of Osun State have not been paid their monthly emolument for the past six months, noting that failure by the state government to pay the doctors “has predictably resulted in untold hardship not only to the civil servants and their families but also the citizenry of the State of Osun”.

It added that various attempts made by leaders and elders of NMA both at state and federal levels at reaching out to Aregbesola on the matter have been futile, as the Governor was said to be absent at meetings organised to address the issue.

The association, however, pointed out that its members in the state have continued to render selfless service to the people despite the hardship.

While pleading with Aregbesola to put an end to the hardship being faced by the medical doctors and  pay them their due wages, NMA South West called on well meaning Nigerians to intervene in the crisis in Osun State.
