Signs that the Edo State governorship election which comes up on September 10, this year, is going to be tough for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state emerged on Sunday, in Asaba, when the South-South Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors met.

They also resolved, among other things, to have a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governors, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Prof Ben Ayade (Cross River) met in Asaba and took the decision.

Only the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, an APC Governor from the South South was not present at the meeting.

A source said he was not invited.

The source argued that he could not have been in such a meeting where the topmost subject was how to uproot his party from power in his state.

Spokesperson for the governors, Senator Okowa, though maintained that the meeting had to do with the issue of security, sources confirmed that topmost on their agenda was Edo State governorship election which is just a few months away.

He agreed that the governors discussed ways not only to map out strategies in order to strengthen the party in that state but also to take the state from the strong grip of APC.

“My brother governors from the South-South PDP came in for a meeting and we discussed a wide range of issues concerning us as a nation and as a party. By the grace of God, we are putting our house in order to win Edo, and as a politician I will not tell you our strategies,” Governor Okowa stated.

On the issue of PDP Convention, he said they discussed PDP. “You will recall that our convention has been fixed for Port Harcourt on May 21 and we are already putting things in place for that convention. The chairman of the committee is Governor Wike.’’

He continued: “While calling on our supporters and members of the party to desist from anything that would cause any form of crisis, we want to go as a united body to Port Harcourt because we stand by the decision to hold the convention at Port Harcourt.

“Plans have been put in place for a wonderful convention.’’

Apart from the herdsmen’s trouble which he agreed they would discuss with the President, he stated that they would not let out others until they see the president.

“We would not let the cat out of the bag now because we are putting things in shape at the moment. “We have a very useful meeting and it is the first that we have had since we were sworn-in.”

Governor Okowa equally condemned the Chevron gas pipeline attack, saying it was very unfortunate, and assured that the state had already taken it up.

That if the party present a formidable candidate at the election and whom people of Edo will trust and like, however if what am seeing from Apc is going by then I don’t see pdp winning the election against Obaseki that Oshomole is fronting to b their flag bearer, who happens to be a good candidate.

It is most unfortunate for Adams Oshiomole to be excluded from a crucial security meeting of South South governors. Of course, he is the most senior to them. It goes to confirm that people like Wike, Okowa and co have no respect for elders or seniors.Beside, thinking that Edo State would welcome PDP back despite Oshiomole’s performance is just wishful thinking. I know that what must have been agreed by these corruption tainted fellows is how to plough the resources of Delt State to fund the elections in Edo State when he cannot pay salaries of workers..
