SON Awards Mark Of Quality To Six Manufacturers In Akwa Ibom

Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, has awarded the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme   (MANCAP) Certificates also known as “Mark of Quality” to six  manufacturers based in various parts of Akwa Ibom State for their products that have met required standards .

The products were, Exspring Table Water produced by Excellent Spring Table Water Company, Uyo awarded Logo No. FT: 5182, Etadu Table Water, Logo No. FT 5222 by Etadu Nigeria Limited, Uyo. Others include Idokas Global Concept Limited, Uyo for their products, Idokas Reinforced Concrete Poles, High Tension Logo   No: CB5321 and Low Tension Logo No: CB 5322. Also awarded was Exotic Ceiling Board, logo No: CB 5345 by De-bless Industries, Ikono; De Treasure Excercise  Books 80, 60, and 40 Leaves with Logos No:  CT : 5144, CT 5145 and CT 5146 respectively by Ukpongson  Nigeria Company Ltd., Ikot Ekpene; and GSP Table Water  No: FT 5221 by Great System Production Ltd., Eket.

Presenting the MANCAP certificates to the Management of the companies recently at the Conference Hall at the Federal Secretariat, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital, the State Coordinator of SON, Mr. Dauda Mshelia said the certificates were awarded to the companies for having “shown commitment in the production of their products according to minimum requirement of standards”, Mr. Mshelia  stated that the Mark of Quality certificate was valid for a period of three (3) years from the date of issuance.

He however warned the Manufacturers that received the certificates that the the Standard Organization of Nigeria, SON, Akwa Ibom State Office would put them under periodic surveillance to monitor  compliance with the required standards for their products while SON reserved the right to withdraw the certificates or logos   conditionally. He explained that three conditions under which the MANCAP Certificate already awarded to a product could be withdrawn were, lack of conformance of the product to the minimum requirement of the standard, abuse of the rules in relation to the use of the MANCAP logo, and if the company ceased to operate in Nigeria.

While congratulating the Awardee Companies for working steadfastly for years to attain the standards set by SON for their products, the State Coordinator, called on the Akwa Ibom State Government, the people of the state, and Nigerians to patronize products of the companies that have achieved the Standard Organization of Nigeria Mark of Quality.

The President, National Association of Small Scale Industries, NASSI, Engr. Ezekiel Essien urged manufacturers in Akwa Ibom State to voluntarily seek for the Standardization of their products by the Standard Organization of Nigeria,  SON, as that would enable their products to attain international standards for greater demand in Nigeria and globally.

Essien who said Nigeria’s hope of recovery from recession lay in developing SMEs advised manufacturers in Akwa Ibom State and the nation as a whole not to shy away from SON but rather see them as partners in progress.

The Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, SMEDAN, Lucy Ekpenyong called on Nigerians to encourage local manufacturers by patronizing Made in Nigeria goods. Represented by Mr. Ufia Magnus, she said the agency was collaborating with the Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON, to encourage , Micro, Small and Medium  Enterprises, MSMEs to improve the quality and standards of their products to facilitate increased demand locally and internationally. This, the SMEDAN boss noted would facilitate access to credit by MSMEs.

Recipients of the MANCAP Certificate (Mark of Quality) thanked SON for qualifying their products for the award which would earn them recognition in Nigeria and globally as well as boost demand for their products. The Managing Director of Etadu Table Water, Engr. Edopese Ufot described the award as a significant milestone as it would increase their consumers’ confidence and increase patronage.
