Soldiers in a convoy of over four vehicles on Saturday turned what could be described as the most peaceful election in Asaba, capital of Delta State, into a rowdy one.

Not only that they send voters scampering for safety, they also confiscated the car keys of the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah, manhandled him and others, who were driving to their polling units.

Voters were not left out as the soldiers sent shivers down their spines and created tension and apprehension in the minds of voters who were yet to be accredited and those who had finished accreditation and waiting for voting to start.

However, at Ndonkwa East Local Government Wad 8, Unit 5, elections were cancelled by INEC for ballot box snatching.

At ward 8, Unit 7 where Ogeah could not be accredited following the failure of the card reader to identify his fingerprint, he was given an Incident Form before the fracas between the Commissioner and members of the military on patrol and this led many voters to take their heels.

It was learnt that the soldiers who were in the state capital to enforce the no movement order from the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, collected keys from voters who were on their way to their polling units to cast their votes.
