The Sokoto State Government will partner with the Catholic Church to improve education, healthcare delivery, religious harmony and peace within its borders and beyond, for the benefit of the citizenry.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal said this on Monday when he received a delegation of the Sokoto Dioceses of the Catholic Church, who paid him a courtesy visit in the Government House, Sokoto.

The delegation was led by Bishop of the Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah.

The Governor stressed the role of the church in the provision of social services in the state.

He assured the delegation that his administration “will render any assistance required to expand the services of the hospital and school currently run by the Sokoto Diocese’’.

Tambuwal urged the Bishop to look into areas of youth empowerment and skills acquisition.

He expressed the state government’s readiness to welcome suggestions and ideas from private individuals and corporate organisations that would ensure the unity and progress of the state.

Earlier, in his remarks, Kukah said the church was ready to partner with the government in all areas of interest.

He commended the citizens of the state, especially the Sultanate Council, for promoting unity, justice and religious harmony.
