Fraudsters target Lancelot Imasuem

I got a Blackberry broadcast message from Nollywood producer, Lancelot Imasuem, early in the week bemoaning how online scam artists have attacked him. Read the message unedited: “PUBLIC ALERT.

This is to alert the general public, friends, fans, colleagues, family and business partners that my email ( and Facebook account has been compromised to the extent that an email has been sent to my bank requesting a local fund transfer.

I appeal to all to disregard further emails and seek verbal/phone confirmation from me directly before assenting to any email message from my address. Thanks – Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen”

… And Aki too

NOLLYWOOD star, Chinedu Ikedieze, is also a target of a very sophisticated Internet scam syndicate. Someone called his media company early in the week from Kenya demanding to get the details on how to send the money the actor allegedly requested before the gift of an Ipad would be sent to him. The confused media handler asked if the star popularly called Aki was giving out Ipads, the caller said yes.

Then the nickel dropped. It was a new scam online.

Some folks clone Facebook accounts of stars and advertise a ‘promotion’ where they are giving out Ipads, Blackberry phones among others but the ‘winner’ must first send the courier charge of some few thousands of naira. You will never hear from them again once you send the money so beware. It is not Aki or any other Nollywood actor you are talking to. It is a scam artist.
