Sheu Of Borno Urges FG To Send IDPs Back Home, Commend Military

The Shehu of Borno and Vice President, Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Ibn Umar El Kanemi has commended the effort of the Federal government so far, in fighting Boko Haram insurgency despite the dreaded group’s unrelenting use of terror in the entire north east and Borno State in particular for over 7 years now.
The Royal Father reiterated that, the insurgency has in no small measure destroyed most of the fortunes of the state and completely paralyzed socio economic activities of the state and the north east in general, as almost all the important roads linking important business towns and cities including neighbouring countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon have been blocked and turned into no go areas.
This, he laments has invariably truncated commercial activities of the sub Saharan trade for which Borno is known.
The Shehu of Borno who stated this over the weekend when the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar paid him homage at his palace added that the efforts of the Federal government will enable all the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) return to their communities which have been deserted following the wanton destruction of people’s property and killings of innocent lives by the Boko haram insurgents.
He said that over two million IDPs in the state were ready to go back to their homes to enable them prepare for the farming season, and appealed to the Federal government to facilitate their return in collaboration with the state government and other donor agencies as well as the security agencies by providing adequate security and conducive living environment for the displaced persons.
The first class chief also recalled that Borno kingdom which had been in existence for over 1,200 years, had never been conquered by any notorious group and Boko Haram insurgents would not be exceptional by the will of God.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar who also visited the military troops and addressed them on the need to end the insurgency, assured both the royal father, government and the people of Borno that the Federal Government is ever prepared and will not renege on its effort to end the insurgency and restore peace in Borno State and the entire northeast.
Air Marshal Abubakar however, announced that the Nigerian Air Force was exploring the possibility of expanding the Air Force group in Borno State to ensure the total restoration of peace in the state is achieved in the shortest possible time.
He also expressed appreciation for the support and encouragement from President Muhammadu Buhari to the Nigerian armed forces in the fight against terrorism and insurgency as well as acknowledging the support and efforts of Governor Kashim Shettima to the security agencies in restoring peace in the state.
The Chief of Air Staff further urged the public to be security conscious and report to the nearest security agencies any suspicious movement or person and be very vigilant in complementing the efforts of the security agencies in the fight against the insurgency, noting that security is a collective effort not only government alone can provide security to its citizens without the support and cooperation of its citizens..
The Air chief however commended the gallantry of the officers and men of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and insurgency urging them to continue to maintain the tempo and end the insurgency.
