The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has revealed how he brokered peace between the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and his predecessor, Bola Tinubu, when they had a row.

Oba Akiolu spoke at an event  marking Fashola’s 2,900th day in office at the Lagos TV complex in Agidingbi area of Lagos recently.

The Oba said sycophants had put a wedge between Tinubu and his godson, Fashola.

He said it took his deft peace moves to calm the warring parties.

Oba Akiolu said those who created the feud between them were seated in the audience and that they were specialists in reporting what party A said to party B and vice versa.

He said almost all the obas in the state brought the enormity of the feud to his notice and tasked him to broker peace as a former police boss.

He said Lagos would have been torn apart and dysfunctional if he hadn’t waded in.

The Oba also said a host of persons sitting in the audience worked against the emergence of Akinwunmi Ambode and Muhammadu Buhari  as Governor and President respectively and threatened to mention their names before he was gestured not to by Fashola.

For a long time, Lagosians had suspected there was some friction between Fashola and Tinubu. The twosome never betrayed their animosity in public but thanks to Oba Akiolu, we now know there was truth behind the speculations.

Not that it mattered anymore to Fashola who used the occasion to apologise to all those he may have offended while in office as he heads towards the Alausa exit door.

“To those that I might have offended, I apologise. For 2,900 days, I was called to make decisions every hour. I made decisions through treating millions of files on issues affecting residents of Lagos. I took those decisions in the best interest of the state. The decisions were taken based on the fact as presented to me.

“I could not have got all the decisions right. It is impossible. To those that we have not reached, please bear with us, the work will never finish. I am sure that our new governor will continue from where I stopped. This is the time to prepare for the change of baton.

“Without the support of the residents of Lagos, your taxes, understanding and perseverance, honest criticism and prayers we may not have come this far,” Fashola said.
