Sesby Flays Infiltration Of Banks In Travel Business

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sesby’s Travel and Tours Limited, Adeola Sesby –Banjoh, has said that one of the major challenges of  the travel business in the country, is the infiltration of some commercial banks.

She said this notwithstanding, the company made a turnover of N1 billion in 2014 despite the several challenxges in the sector.

She stated this while launching the company’s online portal and services in Lagos.

Speaking further on the challenges of travel agencies in Nigeria, the CEO stated that travel agency business like other businesses was facing a lot of challenges.

She explained that despite the numerous challenges in the sector, the travel management company was able to make a turnover in excess of N1 billion last year and that the company did not allow these challenges to distract its focus.

Sesby-Banjoh stated that one of the major challenges was the infiltration of the travel planning business by some commercial banks in the country.

She explained that the main objectives of banks is to keep  and lend money to its customers, wondering why they should dabble into an area they don’t have core competencies in .

Speaking further, the Sesby Travel Tour boss, pointed out that what these commercial banks were doing by selling airlines’ tickets was abnormal, adding that it does not happen in the United States and Britain.

She stated that in these countries, the business of selling airlines tickets was restricted to travel agencies and not commercial banks, as is the case in Nigeria.

The other challenge, she said is funds for the travel agencies.

On the travel agency’s relationship with other stakeholders such as airlines and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Sesby-Banjoh, stated that the relationship had been so cordial, adding that Sesby Travel and Tours Limited became IATA travel agent on June 4, 2003.

She added that Sesby also has good working relations with airlines across the globe, adding the major aim of the travel agency is to take off travel stress from customers.

She listed the services offered by the company to include airlines ticketing, hotel booking and packaging, tour packaging, honeymoon packaging, arrange meet and greet services.

Others are execution of air plane charter, travel and health insurance, airport transfers and visa service.
