Tiv elders in Benue State have thrown their weight behind calls and support by individuals and groups on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt Senate Minority Leader, George Akume as Senate President of the 8th National Assembly.
Leader of the group, Chief Iorapuu Amile who pledged the support of the elders to Akume for Senate President also supported the decision of President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, not to back any senator that has a pending case with any of the anti-graft agencies or those that have links with Boko Haram.
The elders who made this known while speaking with newsmen in Gboko, Gboko local government area of the state on Monday noted that Buhari’s decision would strongly favour Akume.
While he noted that if the APC makes Akume Senate president, it would be rewarding hard work and incorruptibility.
Amile appealed to the APC leadership to maintain their proposal to zone the position of Senate President to the North-Central and deputy to the North-East.
Amile insisted that the Senate minority leader has the best leadership disposition to compliment the Buhari in curbing corruption and insecurity bedeviling the nation.
