Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland First Minister, said on Tuesday  that she was “profoundly concerned” by the consequences of the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union.

According  to her , just over 62 per cent of Scots voted to remain in the EU in Thursday’s referendum. Scotland along with London and Northern Ireland were the only three regions, which opted to remain.

Scotland’s First Minister said she would  travel to Brussels, the headquarters of EU  on Wednesday to meet European Parliamentarians to seek the backing from MSPs.

She is expected to pursue all avenues in order to protect Scotland’s place in the European Union.

Speaking at an emergency summit in Holyrood, Sturgeon said: “We have heard that there was no plan for this outcome – the UK government must get a grip – and that must involve the Scottish government all the way.”

The Glaswegian added that there was now a “power vacuum at Westminster.”

Sturgeon emphasised the point that any EU citizens living in Scotland would not be excluded.

“You are welcome here. This is your home,” she said.

Sturgeon reiterated the point that leaving the EU based on the referendum result was undemocratic.

Based on a very clear result in Scotland, if we were to be removed from the EU, it would be against the will of our people,” she said, adding that doing “That would be democratically unacceptable.”
