Scores Feared Dead As Bomb Explosion Rocks Yola Market

A bomb blast suspected to be from a suicide bomber has hit Yola, Adamawa State  capital, north east Nigeria.

An eyewitness said the blast occurred in front of the Jimeta main market at about 7:45 p.m.

Many were feared dead as the explosion occurred when many traders were closing from their shops and rushing home.

One witness said at least 10 people were killed and about 30 injured.

“We just finished observing the Maghrib prayer when we heard a loud blast in the direction of the market,”  the source said.

He said the casualty figure is likely to be high because many traders came out of the market and displayed their wares outside the main market to also This caused traffic gridlock in the area with many Keke Napep operators jostling for passengers when the bomb exploded.

Meanwhile, Yola is in total lock down as the military has taken over security of the entire city and the environs.

Information made available to Daily Independent indicates that residents are advised to stay indoors to avoid being caught in cross fire. The students are particularly warned to stay in their campus to ensure safety.
