In view of the rising incidence of kidnapping, which has now extended to school children in Lagos State, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command,  Fatai Owoseni, has ordered all the divisional police officers (DPOs) under his command to commence profiling of schools with hostels in the state to enable the police to beef up security in the area.

This, he said, is to protect lives and property by providing  anti-robbery policemen that would man  all the hostels to forestall further kidnap incidents in hostels.

Sources told Independent on Thursday that the police force was embarrassed by the kidnap of three female students, Timilehin Olisa, Tofunmi Popoolaniyan and Deborah Akinayo, from the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School, an Anglican missionary school situated in Ikorodu, Lagos, around 8 p.m.  on Monday.

The kidnappers have reportedly made a ransom demand of N300 million.

A police source in Ikorodu told Independent that “all the Divisional Police Officers have complied and had sent the lists to Commissioner Owoseni.”

He said most of the dormitories in Lagos State belonged to private schools, and the proprietors were already apprehensive over the latest spate of kidnapping.
