Saraki Trial; We Won’t Cede Senate Presidency To PDP – Oyegun Says

The leadership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) reiterated  Wednesday that it will not intervene in the ongoing  prosecution of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, but allow the law to take its full course.

John Odigie-Oyegun, National Chairman of the party,  speaking on the matter once again, said the party will also not compromise the position of the Senate President to the opposition should the Senate president be ousted by the court.

Oyegun was quoted by an online medium to have said the APC as a party is hell bent on getting Saraki removed from office, and that the party won’t mind throwing the Senate president seat away in achieving the set target.

However,  Oyegun, described the report as ‘misunderstanding’ as he reiterated that under no circumstances will  his party compromise the leadership of the Senate.

His words: “That misunderstanding is still on? Let me put it simply. There were basically two points that I was making. Number one, as a party of change even as a party, we cannot interfere in a judicial process that is ongoing. That was clear. And when they asked about the Senate, I said under no circumstance can we compromise on the leadership of the Senate.

“We are the majority party and the issue doesn’t even really arise but unfortunately the way it was put, the misinterpretation has been a little bit too intense and that is clear. It just doesn’t arise at all.

“The issue, the argument and the rest doesn’t arise. If somebody wants to theorise and postulate, that’s a different matter. It doesn’t arise.”
