As Muslims celebrates Eid-il-Kabir across the globe, Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has harped on the need for attitudinal change among Nigerians in the interest of the unity of the country.

Aregbesola in Sallah message to the people of the state and country in general signed by his media aide, Semiu Okanlawon, stressed the need for the promotion of peace amongst the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the country, noting that it was very essential to development. The Governor who tasked both leaders and followers to brace up on the task of building a strong and virile nation, noted that the country must chat a new way in its system of governance for it to attain greatness it deserved.

Aregbesola said that the country needed a national rethinking on the way forward if it was to attain greatness.

According to him, “the Sallah is a better platform for Muslims to re-examine themselves with a view to mending their ways and upholding the cardinal principles of the religion which has its foundation on peace.”

He lamented the rising wave of violence and insurgency across the world and said that at no time in human political history had peace been this endangered.

Quoting from the Glorious Qur’an Chapter 2 verse 45, which said  “Nay, seek Allah’s help with patience, perseverance and prayer…” the governor called on all political and religious leaders across the country to use the festive period to supplicate to God for peace, progress and love among the people.

The statement read in part: “With the drums of war and violence resonating in all corners of the world, Nigeria must do everything humanly possible to douse the tension in the North-East and other parts before it escalates into full blown war and spread to other parts of the country.

“No nation can isolate itself from the current global crises – social, religious, political, economic and human – daily staring us in the eyes. “What we need as a matter of necessity is to have a clean break with the systems that have failed us or retarded our growth as a nation; rethink and chat a new course for our greatness.

“This is the fulcrum upon which President Muhammad Buhari based his government. Nigerians in whatever capacity we can function must identify with the new government and support it for the betterment of our ‘self’ and the nation at large.

“The better time to promote love, tolerance, and spread the message of peace is during festive periods like this.

“I call on Muslims in Osun and the entire Nigerian Muslim ummah to seize the opportunity of the Eid to reach out to peoples of different faiths with greetings and messages of love and peace. “Without peace and love, no nation unites and no nation attains greatness in an atmosphere of disunity singing discordant tunes. Meanwhile,  a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Abdul Raheem Adebayo Shittu, in his Eid-el-Kabir

message charged Muslims and indeed all Nigerians to cooperate and support the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for all round development of the country. Shittu said that aside the usual festivities that go along with the festival, Muslims and all Nigerians within and in diaspora must reflect on past happenings in the country for a better and prosperous nation, adding, “Nigerians must emulate the attitude of Prophet Ibrahim whose implicit faith and submission to the will of Allah made him a hero thousands of years after his demise.

His words: “Nigerians should be patient and cooperate with the Buhari-led administration, which is highly committed to the emancipation of the masses from the pangs of poverty and other forms of deprivations”.

“By supporting Buhari, the country would become a force to be reckoned with in the comity of nations and I advise religious leaders to preach peace and love among Nigerians, because  it is in an atmosphere of peace that the government can truly develop the nation”, the party chieftain said.

He equally enjoined opposition political party to shed the toga of pull-him-down syndrome and work in close concert with the present administration to heal the nation of all its self-inflicted problems due to maladministration of the last 16 years. Speaking in the same vein, Seyi Makinde called on Nigerians to use the Sallah holiday not only for merry making, but to pray and work for global peace and prosperity

Makinde, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State in the last 11th April governorship election described Eid-Kabir festival as special because “it commemorates the changing of misfortune to fortune as exemplified by the Life of Prophets Ibrahim and Ismaheal, when God replaced Ismaheel for a ram on the day he was to be slaughtered as fulfilment of covenant with God.

“This event signifies the omnipotent capacity of almighty Allah, hence I enjoin our Muslim brothers and sisters all over the world, particularly in Nigeria to pray for peace and prosperity in every corner of the world at this particular time.

“Apparently, the whole world is facing serious challenges which are mainly economy and security which I believe we all need to ensure we join hands with Governments within our capacity to improve.

“We should remember our brothers and sisters from Damaturu in Nigeria to Damascus in Syria where peace has become elusive, it is also incumbent on all of us to pray for prosperity and spiritual guidance for our leaders to take political and economic decisions that will enhance quality of life we all live”, Makinde added

He also used the medium to congratulate the Chief Imam Of Ibadanland, Sheik Abdul Ganiy Agbotomokekere and the new Aare Musulumi of Yoruba, Dauda Makanjuola on the befitting positions God has placed them.

Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADS) in its message of felicitation expressed support for the ongoing

anti-corruption crusade of the Federal Government as contained in the society’s message signed by its President, Lateef Okunnu and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The Society called on Nigerians to support the present government in its efforts to fight terrorism and corruption, urging government to also strive to address the economic down-turn of the country.  Okunnu said, “we urge government to be focused on the development of infrastructure to change the tide in our economic and social life as we congratulate Muslims on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urge them to learn from the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir, which are sacrifice and absolute submission to the will of God.  “The celebration of Eid-el-Kabir this year should be with fear of Allah as our major consideration, we should be reminded of the exemplary life of the father of the faithful, Prophet Ibrahim, his son Ismail and his wife Sayidat Hajara on their total submission to the will of God.  “Let us remember that since the last Eid-el-Kabir, many people have left this world to the great beyond, we should therefore forever praise God for His mercies over us, for it is not our own making that God has spared our lives to witness another Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and with the hope of witnessing many more by his grace”, the Society preached.

It urged ADS members to educate their wards and encourage them to join the Society, saying they are poised on including programmes that would attract young and dynamic professionals as he disclosed his intention to address all branches and state councils on the need to take more interest collectively in the health care of all the members. “It is high time we took health care as an important part of our programmes as I wish our

Muslim brothers and sisters performing the Hajj, a successful and happy Holy Pilgrimage and call on our members to remember those who lost their lives in the unfortunate crane accident in Mecca in their prayers that Almighty God grant them Al-Jannat Firdaos”, the legal icon said further.
