Chief Audi Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, yesterday lauded the contribution of the Kebbi State Government to national food security, while growing internally generated revenue.
The Minister, who was in Birnin Kebbi for the National Flag-Off of the Control of Trans-boundary pests in frontline states, said Kebbi State earned N250 million during the just-concluded Sallah celebration, through sale of rams to Lagos for the festival.
“Kebbi is not hungry because it is into Agriculture. I am proud of Kebbi State Government. You will be rewarded for your contribution to food security. I encourage other states to follow your example,” Ogbeh said.
Making allusions to the recent agreements entered into between Lagos and Kebbi in the area of food security, among other efforts, Ogbeh noted that food production was serious business in Kebbi, applauding the state government for playing a vital role in the area of agriculture and food sufficiency.
“What we are doing here today is part of proactive measures of the Federal Govt in partnership with Kebbi State Government,” the Minister stressed.
Speaking earlier, Governor Abubakar Bagudu, said the state had “invested in protecting the bumper harvest we are expecting. We have an aircraft on standby to respond to pest emergency.
For him also, “movement of plant pests, animal diseases and organisms across physical and political boundaries threaten food security.”

This, he believes, remains “a key element of insurance for our farmers and part of a preventive/crisis response strategy,”
