The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has directed the trio of Salisu Abubakar, Tijani Babanginda and Patrick Pascal to train the Home Based Eagles ahead of the CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso.

The team, which opened camp on Monday in Port Harcourt, for the first leg of the encounter on October 17 will not have team’s coach Sunday Oliseh available due to Nigeria’s match against DR Congo and Cameroon in an international friendly slated for Belgium on October 8 and 11 respectively.

Besides, the likes of Femi Thomas, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Austin Oboroakpo, Paul Onobi, Prince Aggrey and Chima Akas, who are also part of the players that will travel to Belgium, will later join the home based team after the match.

According to Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, the move by the NFF was meant to keep the players busy.

“We just want a situation where it will be a win-win for the senior national team after we must have return from Belgium next week. We don’t want to miss out of the FIFA window and also CHAN qualifier.” he said.

CHAN is a tournament designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.

The first edition was held in 2009 in Cote d’Ivoire with DR Congo emerging as champions.

The second edition was held in 2011 in Sudan, with Tunisia as winners, while Libya won the third edition in 2014 in South Africa.
