The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has appealed to the organised labour in the state to be patient with the government, as it is putting modalities in place to clear all outstanding salary arrears.

Chairman of ALGON in Nasarawa, Suleiman Wambai, who made the call at a press conference in Lafia, appealed to labour unions in the state to remain calm and patient as ALGON and other critical stakeholders are tinkering with ways of ensuring that all outstanding arrears of local government workers are paid in full.

“I want to appeal to labour and other critical stakeholders with which we sat down together to look at the disbursement of this bailout funds to be peaceful and patient and appreciate the effort this present administration has put in place to ensure every worker gets paid.

“It is to our dismay that after we had agreed to the way and manner in the disbursement of this bailout, some section of the union went out to call for a strike. We hope they will have a rethink.

“There is no any hidden agenda under the carpet. This process is done with transparency, with accountability and above all with the fear of God,” he said.

He explained that local government councils have received the sum of N4.3 billion bailout fund from the state government to pay salaries of local government workers across the state.

The ALGON chairman, however, said that the bailout funds released to the 13 local government councils of the state under the aegis of ALGON will pay the salary arrears for the months of July, August and September respectively.

“With the availability of the bailout funds, we are happy to tell you that we are going to pay 50 percent of July, 100 percent for August and 100 percent for September,”
