Nigerian international and Warri Wolves striker, Gbolahan Salami, has been dropped from the Super Eagles squad expected to play Tanzania in the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this Saturday in Dar es Salaam.

A top camp source said that the non-release of the former 3SC striker’s international passport by the Norwegian embassy in Lagos was a big distraction for the striker and as a result his form suffered.

“Salami’s mind was not in the training camp. He really wants to move to Norway and the non-release of his passport by the embassy really took his mind away from the training camp. This affected his form and this was why he was dropped,” revealed the official.

“He will most likely get his passport and fly out to sign in Norway before the transfer window closes. Thereafter he will be better focused when he is invited again by the Eagles.”

Salami scored the first goal of the qualifying series when Nigeria beat visiting Chad 2 – 0 in June in Kaduna.

Meanwhile, out of favour Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Martins, believes the team will excel in Dar es Salaam on the premise of the invited players by Coach Sunday Oliseh.

“I think the coach has chosen a good squad and hopefully Nigeria will win in Tanzania,” he said from his base in Seattle USA.

“We shouldn’t underrate any team in Africa for now; there are no minnows in world football anymore. I have seen the list, very experience team led by Emenike (Emmanuel) and Vincent Enyeama and I am sure they will beat their host to come out top in the group.” He went on to say.
