Ughelli – Seplat Petroleum Development Company/NDPC Thursday at Sapele, Delta State, organised a one-day seminar for nursing and expectant mothers on safe motherhood, charging women to practise child spacing to improve on the quality of their health.

Speaking on the theme, “Child Spacing,” Dr. Nkem Okonkwo and Dr. Ese Agbatutu, members of the Medical Women Associate of Nigeria (MWAN), Delta State Chapter urged women to plan their child birth by visiting primary health care centers for child spacing and birth control.

Participant at the programme were also advised to stop visiting traditional birth attendants to rub during pregnancy stressing that rubbing could lead to placenta complications which could endanger the mother and the baby’s life.

“Visit primary health care centres near your area, plan and space your children, don’t give birth to children you cannot cater for, because lack of child spacing could lead to death of the woman,” they advised.

Dr. Chioma Nwachukwu, Seplat General Manager, Corporate Affairs, who represented the CEO, Mr. Austin Avuru, while addressing the women stated that Seplat was committed to its corporate social responsibility to its host communities.

She added that Seplat had been in the forefront in promoting safe delivery and infant maternal health care in its host communities, noting that the company has made huge impact not only in area of education, but also in health care.

Some of the dignitaries at the event were Dr. Odiko David, representative of the Commissioner for Health, Edo State; Mrs. Azike Ngozi, who represented Delta State Ministry of Oil and Gas; Mr. Godwin Ejinyere, Chairman Okpe LGA and traditional rulers.
