Rooney, Shaw’ll Be Fit For Arsenal Clash –Van Gaal

Louis Van Gaal should have Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney available to face Arsenal on Sunday.

Defender Shaw was stretchered off in the first-half against Crystal Palace on Saturday after being accidentally elbowed while Rooney was replaced by loan flop Radamel Falcao at the break.

There were fears the pair could miss the crucial clash against their top-four rivals with third place – and an automatic spot in next season’s Champions League – up for grabs.

But Van Gaal is confident they will be fit for selection.

The United boss said: “Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off.

“Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

United struggled to victory over Palace with David De Gea forced to make a number of smart stops before Marouane Fellaini’s late winner.

Van Gaal believes the injuries threw his side out of kilter and he was relieved to leave Selhurst Park with three points.

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance,” he said.

“Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time but, still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace.”
