The Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Professor Oshita Oshita has advised politicians in Rivers State to emulate the political spirit exhibited by President Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessor Dr. Goodluck Jonathan before, during and after the 2015 general elections.

He noted that both leaders bequeathed an excellent model for Nigerians on democratic contest by demonstrating that the lives of Nigerians are sacred and should not be violated on the altar of elections.

The D.G., in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Abu Michael categorically condemned the unnecessary tension building up in Rivers State as preparations continued for the rerun elections on Saturday.

He said the acrimony being promoted by the actions and utterances of politicians and other key personalities in Rivers state was counterproductive and not in the interest of the ordinary citizens and residents of the state and Nigeria as a whole.

Oshita stated that democracy was designed for conflict prevention and not to generate tension and violence, adding that elections should not be taken as a matter of life and death.

He stressed that Buhari had demonstrated the commitment to earn the confidence of every Nigerian in correcting the ills in the polity and called on the electorate in Rivers State to come out en masse to vote candidates of their choice in the election.
