All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in the April 11 governorship election and petitioner in the election, Dakuku Peterside  told the  election petition tribunal aitting in Abuja on Wednesday, that there were no elections in the state in 2015, contrary to results posted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for all categories of elections.

He said INEC merely allotted votes to political parties in the  presidential, national Assembly, state Assembly and governorship elections, noting that the governorship election was particularly marred by violence and widespread irregularities.

Under cross examination by Chris Uche, SAN, counsel to PDP and Onyechi Ikpeazu, counsel to INEC, Peterside said

Peterside said the although he voted in his unit at the April poll,  that he later realised that his unit and that of the APC candidate, Nyesom Wike were isolated for the camera.

He noted that soon after casting his vote, some hoodlums attacked the his polling unit and carted away the materials in the public glare.

Peterside, appearing as the last witness for the prosecution, corroborated submission by INEC witness to the effect that at the time the petition was filed, a total of 292, 821 persons were accredited to vote in the governorship election in River state.

Speaking to journalists after closing of proceedings, he lauded the tribunal doe a good job so far and   urged it to order a fresh election in the state in the interest of justice and  people of  Rivers State.

He maintained that Wike was wrongly declared winner in the disputed poll.

“I believe firmly that the God of justice will not deny the good people of Rivers State the opportunity to elect a governor that share their aspirations and goals.

My case is simple; that Nyesom was wrongfully declared winner, he did not secure the majority of lawful votes, to that extent, the declaration by INEC is null and void.

Secondly, the election was marred by corrupt practices and irregularities. I have shown that from witnesses we laid earlier, you can see from our witnesses that there voting in 2900 units out of 3800 declared,

If you compare accreditation by card reader to votes declared in about 2900 polling units you find that figures far exceeding the number of accreditation, and of course there so many irregularities” he stated

He maintained that the election sis not comply substantially with law guiding the election , the provisions of the electoral act and other manuals released by INEC.

Earlier at the tribunal, APC State agent   in the April 11 governorship election Achibike Godwin told the Justice  Suleiman Ambusar -led election tribunal that results were indiscriminately allotted to a few out of the 18 political  parties that participated in the disputed poll.

Achibike, a legal practitioner, declared as well that parties that were not listed in the ballot were allotted votes

saying that result declared for parties fall short INEC guidelines which he, noted requires that parties that scored no votes should be so assigned.

The PDP opens their defense today.
