Rivers State government and the state Police Command have agreed to further their partnership to enhance security in the state.

Both parties reached the agreement when the Rivers State new Police Commissioner, Musa Kumo, visited the state Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

At the event, Wike declared that it was imperative that the recent gains made in the improvement of security be consolidated in the interest of good governance and the execution of projects.

He said that his administration would continue to support security agencies, especially the Nigerian Police in their quest to protect the citizenry and grow the economy.

Wike said: “Without security, it will be impossible for us to execute projects as we are doing, because contractors would face the risk of kidnapping and armed robbery. Security is the cornerstone of good governance .

“We are now in the period of governance, no longer in the period of politicking. Therefore, we must cooperate to ensure that we further improve the security of Rivers State.

“The Federal Government alone cannot fund the Nigerian Police, hence we are offering our support to ensure that the police works effectively in the state “, Wike said.

He appealed to the police to work harder towards securing the release of the Vanguard columnist who is still in the den of kidnappers.

In his remarks, the Rivers State new Police Commissioner, Musa Kumo, assured that he would build on the successes of his predecessor.

He called on the state government to continue to support the the police with logistics, pointing out that the officers and men are primed to deliver.
