Four retired teachers that recently bowed out of the teaching profession in Lagos State have appealed to the State government to urgently replace existing vacancies created by the retirement and exit of teachers in public schools.

In a separate interview, the teachers who retired recently after 35 years each as senior class teachers at the Ijebu-Tedo Primary School, Palm-groove, Lagos, urged the government to employ qualified and registered teachers to fill the vacant positions in the teaching service.

The retirees are: Mr. Lawrence Iruh, Mr. Nqat Udofia, Mrs. Tawakalitu Oluwabunmi, and Miss Taiwo Ajayi. Addressing guests at the event, Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Omolara Kalejaye, advised the retirees to observe enough rest, cut back on social engagements, and avoid wasteful spending on party uniforms ‘Aso Ebi’.

“Let your families know you are retired, no more alert at the end of the month. Go for a check-up in the hospital because of your age. Participate more actively in church and mosque activities and in the community at large.”

She commended the retirees for their worthy and selfless services to the state and the school in particular and urged her colleagues who are still in service to start counting dates that would eventually come like a thief at night.
