AS candidates vying for the Speakership of the House of Representatives intensify campaigns, the newly elected members have said that they will subject them to a public debate.

The incoming members of the 8th Assembly in the House of Representatives said that arrangements had been concluded to organise a public debate for all those aspiring for the Speakership position.

A member-elect, Mark Gbila, while addressing the House of Representatives Press Corps, in Abuja, disclosed that some of the newly elected members were already putting together a think thank to organise a first ever debate for the aspirants to the Speaker position.

He stated that since the bulk stops with the new members of the 8th Assembly, the new lawmakers are already taking steps to reach out to all contestants to come and talk to the entire House on their agenda.

Gbilah, who also distanced members from the North Central caucus from an advertisement in some national dailies indicating that they had endorsed one of the candidates, stressed that they did not sanction such publication.

While expressing shock that their names were in the publication, he stressed that the caucus was waiting for their party’s decision to decide.

“We are a loyal members of our party and will not want to do anything until the party pronouncement, we all are still waiting for the directive from our party”, Gbilah declared.

According to him, “This is not the time for name calling. I will want to have a speaker that will stand for the interest of the people, independent minded person, whose views will represent the people and the change the party stands for.”
