Reps Order Probe Of Plateau Killings

Worried by the alleged killing of over 53 persons by soldiers at Wase local government area of Plateau State, the House of Representatives, on Thursday May 7, 2015,  mandated its committees on Defence, Army and Human Rights to investigate the  incident and report to the House within one week.

It also mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently mobilize its personnel and resources to the affected areas to carry out the extent of damage with the view of providing necessary relief materials to the affected victims.

The House in its prompted decisions following  a motion of urgent  importance on the need to probe the matter  brought before it by Hon. Ahmed Idris (Plateau) stressed the need for the prompt action in order to cushion the effect of the untold hardship on the people.

According to Hon. Ahmed Idris, “the alleged inversion by the soldiers in over 33 trucks that arrived Kadarko, Kurmi and Wadata of Wase local government area in Plateau State on the said day and allegedly opened fire on innocent people, burning houses in what they considered as reprisal attack on the six soldiers killed by some unknown persons at Angwan Kanmi in Karin Lamido local government area of Taraba State bothering Plateau.”

It would be recalled that Several persons were on Sunday night killed in Bat Village of Barkinladi Local Government Area of Plateau state.

Eye witness,  Ngovou Dusu,  had claimed that  all her younger brothers and her sister were killed in the attack.

“As I speak with you, the attackers are still killing people,” she said. “Three of my brothers and my kid sister were killed. My mother survived because she was away. Several of my neighbors were killed. Security operatives who came to intervene are compounding the situation. They are not allowing our people leave the villages. Even our neighboring villages that the incident has not affected, no one is allowed to leave.”

According to residents, trucks loaded with mercenaries arrived the villages on Saturday following reports of an alleged killing of four security officials at Angwan Nanmi, Karin Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, which is treckable to Wase in Plateau

The spokesperson for the Plateau state Police Command, Emmanule Abuh  had  confirmed the incident on Monday.

He, however, said he could not ascertain the casualty rate but security officials were deployed to rescue the situation.

Mr. Abuh also confirmed the killing of several people in Wase Local Government Area of southern Plateau state.

He said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, but could also not give casualty figure in the Wase attack.

The police spokesperson said no arrest had been made in connection with the incidents but efforts were on to apprehend the suspects.
