REPORT: Klopp To Replace Rodgers As Liverpool Boss

Liverpool has made contact with representatives of former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp as the Anfield club look to replace sacked manager Brendan Rodgers.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund manager is favourite to take over from the Irishman, with ex-Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti, also a strong contender.

Klopp, 48, is understood to be open to the idea of a move.

The club’s owners intend to have a new manager in place for the Premier League trip to Tottenham on October 17.

Sources close to Rodgers, 42, say he is devastated by the decision to end his three-and-a-half-year tenure, which came after Sunday’s 1-1 Merseyside derby draw at Everton.

Rodgers plans to take some time away before assessing his options but is in no rush to take another job. Negotiations will now take place over his severance package, which could cost Liverpool in excess of £5 million.

Liverpool’s American owners Fenway Sports Group have no plans to travel to the UK and, at this stage, plan to oversee the recruitment process from the United States.

Klopp is understood to have spoken to former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann about the club, the city and the fans.

He has been out of work since leaving Dortmund in the summer, after he won two Bundesliga titles.
