REP Moves To Institutionalise Oil, Gas Discovery Day

The House of Representative is putting in place mechanism aimed at institutionalizing oil and gas discovery day in Nigeria through legislation that would give a legal backing to the oil and gas discovery day in the country.

Hon. Sodaguwo Festus Omoi a member of the House of Representatives representing Ogbia Federal  constituency of Bayelsa State, disclosed this yesterday while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

The lawmaker explained that already a legislation that will stimulate the relevance of oil and gas to the socio-economic outlook of the country was being worked out and would soon be presented for impute by the national assembly and the Nigeria Public.

According to her, the sponsorship of the bill in the national assembly was born out of the need for Nigerians to appreciate the imperatives of oil and gas to the socio – economic mainstay that required care devoid of vandalisation.

Omoi who challenged Nigerians, especially the indigenes of Bayelsa State, to develop other sector of its economy instead of depending on only oil and gas, said Bayelsa must diversify its economy base.

The lawmaker commended all the stakeholders from Ogbia Kingdom for rallying support for her emergence  during the elections as well as described the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.

Hon. Sodaguwo Festus Omoi who is also a member of the House’s ad-hoc committee on media and public affairs said her victory at the tribunal was a manifestation of the independence of the judiciary coupled with the fervent prayers of the Ogbia people assuring that her tenure would witness quality representations and transformation of her constituency and the state at large.
