Red Cross Distributes Materials To Insurgency Victims In Potiskum

Determined to cushion the sufferings of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yobe State, the Nigeria Red Cross Society has distributed relief materials to the victims of insurgency in Potiskum town.

Disaster Management Coordinator, Nigeria Red Cross Society, Yobe State chapter, Alhaji Ali Mellah, disclosed to newsmen in Potiskum town during the distribution that the items were procured by the Presidential Initiatives for the North-East under the Presidency.

“Each of the IDP has got 10kg bag of rice, guinea corn, 1kg of detergent, antiseptic soap, nylon mat, baby pampers, rain coat, 1 carton of spaghetti, 5 liters of palm oil, 5 liters of vegetable oil, blanket, matches, 1kg of salt, 5kg of sugar, 10kg of maize, solar lighting packs and multivitamins respectively”.

He revealed that the Nigeria Red Cross has targeted 5,000 beneficiaries as follows; Potiskum – 1,300 people, Damaturu – 1,200 people, Fika -750 people, and Gadaka – 750 people.

Mellah further explained that the items were successfully distributed to the targeted IDPs free of rancor and urged other donor agencies and well-meaning individuals in the society to emulate the Presidential Initiatives on North-East to alleviate the sufferings of the victims of the insurgency in the region.  “We urge other donors and well-meaning individuals to assist these IDP’s because they need help to enable them adjust in the society”.

One of the IDPs, Hajiya Aisha Musa (a widow), said “my husband was killed by the insurgents in Gujba and he left me with three orphans; we find life very difficult and miserable until when the Nigeria Red Cross Society engaged in giving us relief materials.
