Lagos – Rangers International of Enugu consolidated its leadership of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table following its walkover of Giwa FC of Jos.

With Rangers getting three points and three goals in the bargain, the Enugu based side now has 27 points to top the league from 13 matches.

Both Rangers and match officials were at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja Wednesday evening, but Giwa FC failed to turn up.

Rangers International was leading the tie 1-0 before the game was abandoned in the 74th minute due to poor crowd control, with the match rescheduled to be replayed on Wednesday in Abuja, albeit only for the remaining 16 minutes.

Reacting to the development, Foster Chime, Rangers Media Officer, said: “They didn’t come so we have walked them over. It is a good thing for Rangers because we claim the three points and the three goals. “We expected them to come but they didn’t come so the referee did the needful, which is to award three points and three goals to us,” he said.

In other matches, Heartland held Enyimba to a 1-1 game in Umuahia in an Oriental derby. In Akure, Sunshine Stars mauled visiting Nasarawa United 3-0.

Sunshine’s Okiki Afolabi score from the spot after his side’s player was fouled in Nasarawa’s vital area.

The player scored again shortly after the second half before the Akure Gunners finished the match with a late strike.
