A strong windstorm accompanied by heavy rain has destroyed more than 200 buildings and electricity installations in Tsanyawa Local Government area of Kano State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rain, which lasted several hours, caused flooding in the area.

Tsanyawa Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Safiyanu Mohammed, told newsmen in Kano that property worth millions of naira were also destroyed by the windstorm.

The chairman assured victims that the council would assist them within its ability.

He listed the affected areas to include Tsanyawa, Garon, Yam’kamye and Harbau.

Mohammed explained that he had visited the affected areas to sympathise with the victims with a pledge to assist them.

He, however, called on the state government to assist the affected persons urgently to alleviate their sufferings.

Mohammed urged the victims to consider the incident as the will of Allah and to pray against future occurrence.

The chairman appealed to residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on water passages and stop building on water ways to avoid flooding.
