Provost of the Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Prof. Ladan Shehu, has assured the incoming administration of the college’s assistance in the development of agriculture in the state.

Shehu said this on Tuesday during a lecture organised by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) entitled, ‘Victory Public Lecture’.

He said that for any meaningful development to be achieved in the state, the agriculture sector must be given priority among others.

According to him, the college is ready to partner the new administration in the provision of means and measures that will encourage farmers to improve in their outputs.

“The college is ready to assist the government in the revival and development of agriculture in the state.

“These days, we are not serious about farming as many do it to only feed themselves. In those days, there used to be pyramids of groundnuts,” he noted.

Shehu also said that the government could use farming to reduce unemployment among the youths in the state and become self-reliant.

Also delivering a paper, Alhaji Hassan Hassan, a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, said for the incoming administration to succeed people must offer it total loyalty.

“Apart from being loyal, there is also the need for citizens to remove the tendency of relying completely on the government to provide everything for them”.

He added that the issue of youth restiveness must also be addressed because insecurity could affect everybody within the society.

Hassan said people must come to terms with the fact that the change they had been yearning for has arrived and they too should, therefore, have to change their negative attitudes.

Hassan called on the people of the state to also take education seriously and avoid misusing religion for selfish interest.

The event which took place in Awala Hotel, Bauchi, attracted state APC executives, party members, women groups as well as the general public.
