The issue of missing or fake result sheets triggered protest in some parts of Uyo, Ibiono and Nsit Ubium local government areas of Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

The protests earlier in the day stalled the accreditation process in Ibiono, Uyo and Nsit Ubium where some APC members instigated voters against the process, insisting on getting the result sheet, as part of the exercise.

In Ibiono Ibom, Sen. Ita Enang who interacted with correspondents said the result sheets provided were photocopied.

He added that only two units in the entire area were issued with result sheets.

Reacting, the Senator-elect, Uyo Senatorial district, Bassey Albert Akpan, expressed disappointment that Sen. Enang whom he considered an elder statesman could instigate some youths against the process.

He appealed to the voters to conduct themselves peacefully, and pledged his party’s preparedness to accept defeat if the outcome of the election does not turn out in favour of PDP.

Arguing that the issue of result sheets should not cause violence,  the Akwa-Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Don Etim, said INEC may have good reason to have withheld the result sheets during the accreditation exercise but expressed optimism that the right thing would be done.

He lamented that the processes of authentication, using the Card Reader in most polling units in Ikot-Ekpene Senatorial District were slow and discouraging and could disenfranchise some as it did during the presidential election.

The slow functioning of the Card Readers, the commissioner noted, was tasking on the timing of the accreditation process and may also affect the timing of commencement of voting proper.

Aside from the slow functioning of the Card Readers, he complained that the the number of Incident Forms were limited to  take care of the number of voters in case of complete dyfunctioning of the Card Readers.

In Ibiono-Ibom, the member representing Ibiono State Constituency, Ime Okon, said the Card Readers were working effectively in most units  in the area.

In Etoi Ward 4, Uyo Local Government Area,  one of the thugs with a gun in his pocket mistakenly pulled the  trigger within his body and got himself shot to death.

Generally, election in Uyo LGA was stalled as the people were  instigated by aggrieved APC candidates  against voting due to alleged distribution of fake result sheets.
