The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has applauded President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat at the March 28 presidential poll, saying that the action of the president saved Nigeria from bloodbath and political chaos.

Jonathan, who contested the election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had lost to General Muhhamadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to the development, National President of OYC, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said if Jonathan had not conceded defeat at the time he did, crisis would have erupted in the country.

Isiguzoro stated this on Monday in Umuahia, Abia State.

He alleged that some retrogressive elements had prepared to unleash mayhem on the country had the presidential election result “gone the other way round,” and commended Jonathan for his courage and pro -activeness in averting the looming danger.

Isiguzoro said that the President had, by his action, demonstrated his regard for the peace and unity of Nigeria above his personal interest, describing him as the father of the new Nigeria.

“His action should mark the end of going to tribunal after elections in Nigeria”, he said, while charging politicians who lose elections to emulate him.

He said that Jonathan had further given root to Nigeria’s democracy and pledged the continued support of Igbo youths for him despite the unfavorable outcome of the poll.

Isiguzoro added: “We have no regrets whatsoever supporting him and his rare sacrifice for the survival of Nigeria’s democracy shall ever be appreciated.”

He, therefore, called on Buhari to see the entire country as his constituency, contending that nobody or section( s) of the country should be vilified for their political choice.
