Presidency’s Plot To Remove Dogara, Others Will Fail – Okorie

Hon. Linus Okorie, a member of the House of Representatives from Ebonyi State, has alleged that the Presidency was plotting to remove Speaker Yakubu Dogara and the leadership of the House, capitalising on the ongoing controversy around allegations raised by Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin on corruption and budget padding in the National Assembly.

Okorie made his claims on Monday through a press release that empasised that the plot would fail because Dogara and other legislators, especially the principal offices, had not done anything illegal.

According to him, the House had the constitutional power to “amend, reduce from or add to” the (budget) estimates proposed by the executive and that was what the House did.

He also noted that constituency projects were not implemented by the legislature but by the executive and as such there was no justification for saying lawmakers were corrupt.

Okorie cautioned the Presidency, stating that, if there is an attempt to remove the leaders of the lower chamber, President Muhammadu Buhari would have completely “unitarised” Nigeria’s democracy and completed the push for a repressive and totalitarian brand of democracy.
