Pregnant Woman In Court For Alleged Theft Of N13, 000

A pregnant woman, Justina Ndubisi, on Tuesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly beating and stealing neighbour’s cell phone and cash of N13, 000.

Ndubisi, 35, a resident of No. 59, Oshodi Road, Oshodi, Lagos, is charged for breach of peace, stealing and assault.
The Prosecutor Inspector George Nwosu told the court that the defendant committed the offences at her residence on February 7.
Nwosu said that the defendant assaulted her neighbour, Uzoma Ikeh, by beating her up.

“The accused beat up the complainant because the complainant’s six-year-old son beat her own four-year-old son,’’ the prosecutor said.
Nwosu said that the defendant pursued the complainant’s son with a cane to her shop, the complainant tried to prevent the defendant from entering her shop and also beating her son.
“The complainant prevented the accused from beating her son in which the accused transferred her aggression to the complainant and beat her.
“The complainant refused to retaliate because the accused is heavily pregnant.
“The accused then forced herself inside the shop and scattered the complainant’s wares and in the process stole her phone and money,” Nwosu said.
he added that the offences, contravened Sections 166, 171 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which on conviction attracts three years imprisonment.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya, adjourned the case till April 18 for mention.
