Immediate past Senate Minority Leader, Senator George Akume has advised the immediate past governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, to pray for God’s forgiveness for impoverishing the people of the state.

Akume gave the advice while playing host to the people of Ushongo Local Government Area (LGA) of the state led by its Chairman, Saint Abraham, who paid him a condolence visit over the death of his elder brother, Idyer Akume Dajo, at his residence in Makurdi on Sunday.

Until his death, Indyer Akume Dajo, was the paramount ruler of Tarka LGA of the state.

Akume who spoke in Tiv advised Suswam to pray for forgiveness, adding that if Suswam would be sincere in his prayers to God, God would forgive him.

He explained that but for the love of the people of the state the poverty situation during Suswam’s tenure may have forced him to stay out of Benue and from the people.

He however said he would never abandon the people of Benue for whatever reason.

While stating that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a party with a conscience, Akume appealed to the Ushongo caretaker chairman to make a difference within the six months he has been given to serve.

In his response, the Ushongo chairman noted that they were at Senator Akume’s residence to commiserate with him over the death of his elder brother.

The chairman who had on his team all the council members as well as APC ward chairmen in the LGA also lauded the sterling qualities of the late J. S. Tarka who was an uncle of Senator Akume.

Abraham said the aim of the visit was basically to encourage Akume over the death of his brother and also prayed that God grants him the fortitude to bear the monumental loss.
