Former governor of Bayelsa State and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Timipre Sylva, has said that those who persecuted and hounded him out of office as governor thought they had finished him politically.

He said this at a mini-rally in Yenagoa at the weekend while receiving former deputy governor, Werinipre Seibarugu, former acting governor and speaker of the state House of Assembly, Nestor Binabo, immediate past member of the House of Representatives, Warman Ogoriba and former president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Oyinfie Jon Jon, among others, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Recounting his ordeal, Sylva told the party members and supporters that his political detractors fought him from everywhere, including Otuoke.

The APC chieftain mocked his political adversaries, saying they had concluded that they had buried him politically but they did not know they were planting a seed.

He said, “Those who participated in my persecution and removed me as governor concluded that I was finished politically.

“They never knew I was a tree planted to germinate in another place. They thought they were burying me, they never knew it was a seed they planted.

“When I became governor, they were fighting me from everywhere, even from Otuoke.”

Sylva said that lessons of his political persecution and subsequent removal as governor would galvanise the APC to unite the various political interests in the  ahead of the 5 December  governorship election in the state.
