Police recover N42.2m from fleeing kidnappers in Niger

Niger State Police command has recorded a major breakthrough in checkmating criminals as it has recovered N42, 244, 000.00 cash from fleeing kidnappers in Kontagora in Kontagora Local Government Area of the stat

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkanah (ASP), disclosed this to newsmen shortly after resumption of office at the headquarters, Dutsen Kura-Gwari, Minna on Friday, May 22, 2015.

He said that on sighting the police patrol team, the suspects who were conveying the money suspected to be ransom they had collected from families of their victims in neighbouring Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto states to their hideout on a motorcycle abandoned it and fled.

The PPRO also told journalists that all the ransoms as contained in the abandoned bag were paid in Kontogora axis and the money so recovered transferred to Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Force Criminals Intelligent and Investigations Department (FCIID), Abuja.

Elkanah however said crime wave has drastically reduced in the state due to what he described as ‘tactical operational strategies’ adopted by the command.

While soliciting the support and co-operation of citizens the state in the fight against all forms of crime, Elkanna said the measures put in place towards achieving desired results includes constant raiding of suspected criminal hideouts.

The command also adopted neighbourhood policing, community safety partnerships  as well conducted regular training and analysis for officers and men of the command to enhance their performances.
