Police Probe Double Murder in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation into bizarre killings that took place in the State early this week.

On Sunday, April 26, one Chijioke Onyeke reportedly murdered his father at Umuaina, Umuogboagu village, in Igboeze North Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that at about 6:30pm on that fateful day, Chijioke inflicted machete cuts on his father’s head after a quarrel over an issue yet to be ascertained as at press time on Wednesday.

The elderly man sustained severe injuries from the cuts.

Family members and neighbours, who were around when the incident occurred, rushed him to St. Mary’s hospital, Ogurete, Enugu Ezike and in spite of efforts to save his life, the man died at the hospital.

Police spokesman in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed our report, said the deceased’s corpse was deposited in the morgue of the  General Hospital, Ogurute, Enugu Ezike, for autopsy while his son, Chijioke who is the principal suspect in his father’s death has been arrested and presently in police custody.

In a similar incident on Monday, one Chidi Agbo, of Ette Centre in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, allegedly beat his mother, Virginia Agbo to death over a dispute.

It was learnt that Virginia’s lifeless body was found lying on her bed after the son beat her up.

Amaraizu, who also confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said Virginia’s body was also deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital, at Ogurute, Enugu Ezike.

Amaraizu disclosed that the two suspects are helping the police with their investigation.
