Police Parade NYSC Member, 8 Others Over Alleged Armed Robbery, Kidnapping In Anambra

The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) Anambra State, on Thursday paraded nine suspected armed robbers and kidnappers, one of them a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Ebonyi state.

The suspects were separated in three groups consisting of the armed robbers and the kidnappers.

Parading the suspects at SARS head quarters, Awkuzu in Oyi local council area, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra state, Mr. Ali Okechukwu said that Mr. Kinsley Oraka, the NYSC member on March 2, 2016, conspired with one Ugo Ezioko and armed with a locally made pistol broke into Igwe residence at Abagana and robbed students of cash valued at N92, 000.00.

Mr. Oraka who confessed to the crime claimed that the pistol belonged to his accomplice, and added that he was pushed into robbery because the December batch of NYSC were not paid their allowances.

The second group of suspects were alleged to have lured a lady through Facebook and kidnapped her for ransom.

They include Chigozie Ezinwa; Chinonso Okere; Chukwuma Abamaso and Arinze Okoye all of Obosi community. They were said to have lured one Nkiru Anene through Facebook interaction from Onitsha Sports Club to Oguta road where they kidnapped her and took her to Obosi and then demanded N500, 000 ransom for her release and released her three days later after collecting and selling her two mobile phones and a wrist watch all valued at N93, 000.00.

The alleged leader, Chinonso confessed to the crime, but said that they kept the abducted lady for only one day and that they released her when they discovered that she could not produce any money.

He also claimed that the gang realized only N15, 000. 00 from the phones they sold because one of the phones was damaged.

The third group comprising of Sopuluchukwu Obike, Anthony Ezekwem, Ndubuise Oga and Abuchi Okoro with Ndubuisi Oga as ring leader allegedly robbed a motorist of N3m at Amansea along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on February 26, 2015.

The PPRO said the feat of the SARS was possible because it got intelligent investigation and prompt response to information given by good spirited individuals.

He reassured Anambra people that the state is safe for business and expressed gratitude to Governor Willie Obiano for his unrelenting efforts to rid the state of crime.

He also thanked sister agencies which he said worked in synergy with the police and urged people to come forward and give police useful information that will aid their work.
