Police Foil Attempt To Abduct Diezani’s Brother

The Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police Force said on Thursday that its men have foiled an attempt by a gang of kidnappers to abduct  Egedegu Agama,  the former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke’s brother.

The command in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, said the police acted on a tip-off at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the hoodlums had concluded plans to take Agama away.

Butswat said the policemen laid an ambush at the Marine Police Waterside in Yenagoa from where the people of Yenaka, Diezani ‘s village, and other neighbouring communities access their area.

He said four members of the gang were arrested.

He gave their names as Bethel Alasuo, 37, Jackson Ofolo, 28, both from Ondewari community in Southern Ijaw LGA, Ezibor Ibilo, 33, from Gbarain community and Funpere Kpou, 28, from Gbarantoru community.

“The police recovered  one Makarov Para Pistol, two T-shirts with the Inscription “SECURITY” at the back, two Bandanas that can be used as Face Mask”, Butswat said.

The PPRO said the suspects had been detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, adding that investigation into the incident was ongoing.
